Rails Railfanning and Gastronomy V
The final train journey of this amazing trip. A passenger train but one that would take us further north towards Chiplun, and little did we know the magnificent sights that lay ahead of us.
At the crack of dawn, the smell of fish woke us up and we promptly got ready and headed to the station in the darkness. With a few friendly canines giving us company, we reached the station, purchased the tickets to Chiplun and made our way to Platform 2 where our train was stationed, having arrived a few hours ago from Madgaon. The loco was a KYN WDG 3A. We boarded the first coach and settled into the emergency exit windows. The weather was still chilly and foggy, making it a brilliant Agatha Christie setting.
At 5:30, we left Ratnagiri, into the darkness. The ALCO was at its best, chugging and smoking with all its might.
Crossing the Tutari Express, and picking up passengers en route the scene outside the window reminded me of the cover page of "Murder on the Orient Express" by the Queen of Mysteries.
The train pulled into the beautiful Ukshi station that's located inside a tunnel, for crossing with the Konkan Kanya
As we got the starter, Akshay captured a stunning pic of all three aspects, at the same time. The loop line at caution, mainline starter at danger and advance starter at green.
This image, can be like the perfect metaphor for life. At times, life may be at red, a total standstill. It will turn into caution, where things may not be going your way, but ultimately, it will be green and life will surely turn better then.
The two hour journey ended quickly, and we hung around to capture the overtake of the passenger by the Rocket aka the Superfast to Mumbai from Mangalore. At the same time, the new boy, the Humsafar from Gandhidham pulled in for a crossing.
After this, we went to Parashuram ghats for a breakfast of Missal and Usal Pav, had darshan at the temple and spent some time doing RF at Visawa Point.
After two Lal Dabba MSRTC bus rides later , we boarded the comfy VRL Volvo bus at Karad. The bus had a technical issue at Kolhapur, and this meant we reached Bangalore at 10 am, 5 hours delayed.
This was a trip where everything went like clockwork and thus Rails Railfannin and Gastronomy trip comes to an end.
Big thanks to Akshay for planning the trip, SJ sir for suggesting and helping us out with the best places to have lunch and dinner at Hubli, Sankesh for being our guide at Ratnagiri. We will catch up with you on the next KR trip for sure with Sampath sir.
